Job Title: Data and DDI Network Engineer

Purpose of Role:

The objectives of this role is to be a project resource who will assess, raise and implement technical changes within the project pool for RBS network projects including DDI (DNS). This is a pivotal role in providing a specialist implementation function across programme, project, operations and the customer ensuring services are delivered into service operations so that they can be managed in life to the highest support standards with the ability to work both within a team environment and as an individual. DDI functions include delivering project solutions on a legacy QIP DDI platform and also for the new Infoblox DDI infrastructure.

The role will predominantly be based at an RBS office. Due to the nature of the role, work outside of office hours will be expected.

Key responsibilities:

  • Project Delivery

  • Gather information to understand scope of project, and produce clear definition of technical deliverables with accurate estimates. This includes providing technical assessments of design documents for proposed solutions, in particular network improvements, to ensure the design is fit for purpose and meets RBS standards.

  • Suggest appropriate options and recommend a chosen solution, including associated tasks (test strategies, etc) which meet GT operational principles, attending conference calls regarding project work requests directly with the client and other Vendors and to provide technical support and technical assistance and guidance for the work request.

  • Produce technical and supporting documentation to a standard that will achieve sign-off from all necessary parties including input into test plans ,unit test infrastructure and also developing acceptance into service documentation.

  • To configure infrastructure and own project requests involving Data, network / configuration (including DNS, DHCP) from inception to implementation and handover to the operational teams. This will include:

  • Support disposal and de-commissioning of equipment

  • Conducting stress, integration and quality tests

  • Producing or updating network diagrams and documentation

  • Providing status updates and reports

  • Creating a bill of materials (BOM) for the RBS Project Manager to order required hardware/software.

  • Carrying out technical assessment of changes

  • Carrying out impact analysis and risk assessment

  • Explaining and presenting change as required at CABRelationship Management

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in sister teams.

  • Establish and maintain effective and strong working relationships with project and programme managers.

  • Effectively participate in project and technical meetings

  • Support operational acceptance tests and user acceptance tests

  • Developing strong relationships with senior technical specialists within Project Teams

  • Developing strong partner relations with technology partners and suppliers

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience working in a technical environment, preferably within a financial organisation.

  • 3 years’ experience in design and implementation of corporate sized DDI platform. Preferably Infoblox/QIP based solutions.

  • Proven success in delivery of high quality, cost effective DDI services in a complex environment.

  • Proven ability to plan and execute workload in a dynamic environment

  • Good networking background

  • Thorough understanding of IP and OSPF, EIGRP & BGP Routing Protocols

  • Thorough understanding of DNS, DHCP, IPAM and NTP

  • Working knowledge of MPLS and the use of VRF’s

  • Professional accreditation in relevant technical disciplines is desirable – CCNA / CCDA / CCNP / CCDP / CCIE

  • Knowledge Ethernet and WAN provisioned solutions within an Enterprise Network

  • Cisco orientated IOS / CatOS / NX-OS experience working with Routers and Switch platforms

  • Knowledge of F5 BIGIP LTM / GTM Load Balancers is also desirable

  • Knowledge of IP subnetting, IPv4/6 addressing.

  • Infoblox and QIP RunIP/Alcatel Lucent Appliances.

  • Scripting knowledge for data import/exports and reporting.Ideally, will also have knowledge, or skills, with the following

  • Wifi

  • Nexus

  • QOS


  • ITIL

  • Network Certifications (CCNA/CCNP etc) an advantage

  • Professional accreditation in relevant DDI technical disciplines is desirable – CICE / CIST
