2nd Line Networks Engineer

Why this role matters
We have an exciting opportunity for a 2nd Line Networks Engineer to join our team in Belfast. You will be responsible for the deployment and support of ICT solutions within one or more disciplines. You will provide technical support, resolving escalated technical issues within your own work area. This covers all areas of ICT such as systems and applications software, database management, network services, data and systems security.
You will need to leverage the experience of the relevant BT wide professional communities to discharge these responsibilities, thus ensuring knowledge sharing extends beyond the functional boundary of the role.
What you'll be doing
Providing Network Cisco Data/Voice advice and/or professional services to both internal and external clients.
Providing support on projects, carrying out elements of the research, analysis and/or delivery.
Providing operational support ensuring KPIs and SLA are achieved.
Leading on the delivery of specific components of a project, where appropriate.
Responsible for drafting reports and discussing recommendations based on research with your manager.
Responsible for sharing expertise with peers.
Occasionally providing on the job training to other team members.
Supporting the development and implementation of unit policies and procedures.
Occasionally involved in liaising with internal, external and third party suppliers.
Inputting to cost/timescales solutions/options and manage expectations as appropriate with customer or business unit teams.
Personally participating in and contributing to BT wide professional community activities where applicable e.g. knowledge sharing, best practice within BT and external industry.
Using the relevant BT wide professional community framework to raise your skills and those of your team to the recommended PC standards.
We'll also need to see these on your CV
CCNA Routing & Switching certified and working towards CCNP/Cisco Voice Support also desirable.
Certificates in or working towards Cisco Wireless, Security or Voice advantageous.
Knowledge of supporting Netscalers & Bluecoat Packetshapers (experience preferable).
Good understanding of procedures and application of procedures and concepts within own subject area.
Experienced and competent in own area.
Shares own expertise / Provide guidance and support to others.
Completes own role independently or with minimal supervision/guidance.
Applies knowledge/skills to a range of standard and non-standard activities.
Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
Ability to communicate well with customers, often under pressure.
