Why this role matters

The Access Design Department, in Customer Centric Operations, in TSO, is responsible for the design, technical strategy and performance of all aspects of EE’s Radio Access and In-building solution networks. The department also provides a technical consultancy role for the business, including future technology scenario modelling, Spectrum technical strategy support and RAN Performance Optimisation.

What you'll be doing

The role is essential to improve the accuracy of radio coverage prediction leading to an improved customer experience through,

  • refining modelling data sets, using data results collected from drive tests, network probes and tools.

  • working closely with Radio Optimisation and Planning teams to improve processes of cell planning.

  • influencing EE business stakeholders (Head of / Director level) outside of Access Design to agree and buy in to outcomes of predicted coverage.

  • Providing technical leadership and seeking out opportunities across functional areas to support the success of EE, the role is responsible for,

  • RF Planning Tool Design; managing all data definitions, defining requirements for successful operation and maintenance.

  • RF Interference Calculation Tool Design; managing all data definitions, defining requirements for successful operation and maintenance.

  • ESN Planning Tool Support; Coverage prediction outputs are to agreed specification and support operational processes.

  • RF Modelling; design and setup of “one off” strategic coverage plots, handing over recurring task to Access Planning.

  • Business Support for Design level coverage queries.

The role will have strong interaction within Access Design, Access Planning, Business Partners, MBNL and across all EE manage service providers and vendors

  • to anticipate and solve problems

  • champion the design and delivery of projects through own management

focus upon high quality, cost effective solutions in support of business initiatives, whilst maintaining high levels of customer experience.

Key Skills

  • Leading Radio Cell Planning activities

  • Using radio frequency modelling / coverage prediction tools for mobile networks

  • Investigating and testing coverage incidents

  • Being able to create own designs

  • Being able to analyse large amounts of data to see patterns and trends, being able to present findings in a way that is meaningful to technical and non-technical.

Critical knowledge and experience

  • Strong experience in Cell Planning and Optimisation of Mobile Networks.

  • Good knowledge of Planning tools and GIS tools (MapInfo)

  • Strong understanding of Network KPIs and performance measurements.

  • Good knowledge of RAN optimisation features and parameters.

  • Very Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word)

  • In depth technical expertise in mobile/fixed telecommunications industry in both architecture and operability with RAN OSS.

  • Very good understanding of current and future technologies.

  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external teams/customers, including the ability to articulate ideas.

  • Ability to understand technical requirements and produce functional specifications for system changes.

Must have

  • Track record of on-time, on-budget and to specification delivery based on internal policies and procedures, with the ability to manage the end-to-end delivery of solutions.

  • Very good analytical skills to verify results of modelling.

  • Can work with minimum supervision.

  • Resourceful and creative in finding solutions to technical obstacles in delivering the results.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for understanding the evolution of customer devices and the ability to articulate to both technical and non-technical audiences how these will change the service level requirements placed on our network
