Why this role matters:
Working as part of the Commercial Finance workstream of virtual, geographically diverse bid teams, the Commercial Finance Manager will own the preparation and submission of the financial aspects of bids in compliance with the GS Winning New Business process in support of Requests for Proposals.
The role will be a key member of the Commercial Finance team, who will hold ultimate responsibility for production of the end to end bid financials, including internal financial statements, briefing papers and customer facing pricing models.
The Commercial Finance Manager will provide cost modelling management to ensure that the customer specific requirements of the bid are met.

On-going Specific Projects
Development of the internal financial bid business case for executive review
Price shaping and optimization for competitiveness
Assessment of solution costs for accuracy and completeness
Contract Clearing House validation for bids
Lead and support Continuous Improvement projects
Supporting analysis, including sensitivity cost/price range financial impact
Commercial Finance Management to include:
Contract extension, re-sign and new logo growth financial business plans
Development of bid sign off paperwork for executive reviews
Evaluation of the in life P/L vs. contract extension financial proposals
Commercial assessment of terms and the impact to pricing, cash, and profitability
Client price book development and presentation
Working closely with the Head of Commercial Finance, the role holder will be responsible for the Excel based analysis and processing of business case cost inputs, utilising bespoke/ad hoc spread sheet models, standardised BT Business Case Models and the GS Financial Evaluation model.
Accurate and timely delivery of robust cost inputs, covering both BT internal and external cost quotations, to the Finance Lead in the required and agreed format for consolidation into the bid financials, often to tight timescales.
Applying a logical and organised approach to the manipulation of potentially large quantities of raw data, applying appropriate checks and balances to ensure completeness and accuracy of final bid inputs.
Working closely with geographically diverse bid teams consisting of technical, service design, contract finance and product specialists across BT to understand the basis, underlying assumptions and drivers of inputs, ensuring these are aligned with the bid requirements.
Pro-actively query and challenge inputs to ensure accuracy and completeness, applying sufficient diligence in cost validation to capture material source compilation errors and omissions.
Using Excel expertise to create dynamic cost models, building flexibility to present multiple scenarios and efficiently accommodate changing customer requirements (e.g. volumes, contract terms, product options) as specified by the Finance Lead.
Building key input types (e.g. CAPEX, Resource, BT products).
Ensuring all risks and issues identified during input validation (both financial and non-financial) are clearly communicated to the Finance lead, with suggested mitigation strategies.
Providing concise and well-presented cost breakdowns and analyses in support of internal briefings and Customer negotiations.
Interfacing with a variety of BT systems to provide supplemental input data as required.
Contributes towards the development of Business Unit / functional finance strategy.
Responsible for building and maintaining strong manager level relationships both internally and externally with customers, suppliers or other major bodies.
Suggests resolution to complex issues and across LoB boundaries (guidance sought in most cases) and/or advises in Commercial Finance issues.
- High Impact – winning profitable business is critical to the future success of BT. The Commercial Finance Manager will have the ability to directly influence the quality and accuracy of bid responses, helping mitigate the risks of costing errors and directly impacting BT’s bottom line.
Ability to work independently under the remote direction and guidance of Head of Commercial Finance.
Seeks appropriate support from Head of Commercial Finance for key decision making where necessary.

Qualifications and Skills
- Finance or Business based degree desirable but not essential depending on demonstrable skills and experience.
Strong Excel and data manipulation skills.
Previous finance experience of at least 3-5 years.
Communications and/or IT Outsourcing industry background preferred.
Previous bid experience highly desirable
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent English a pre requisite, other languages beneficial but not essential.
Effective time and workload management – demonstrable ability to plan, prioritise and deliver.
Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and sometimes high pressure environment.
Ability to take the initiative to drive work packages to successful, timely delivery.
Pro-active team member quick to engage the wider team to facilitate issue resolution.
Exposure to delivery and implementation issues sufficient to be able to challenge and question assumptions underlying inputs would be beneficial.
Willingness to occasionally travel to co-locate with bid team if required.
Willingness to occasionally work long or anti-social hours to meet critical deadlines.
Ability to present effective commercial solutions to sales teams, executives and external customers.
