We currently have opportunities for a Junior Field Engineer to join our Network Engineering Operations team in RoI. You will be based in either South Kildare, Carlow or Kilkenny . These roles are ideal for candidates with some experience in an engineering, electronics or telecoms environment.

Purpose of the role:

You'll perform reactive and preventative node site maintenance as per vendor documentation to pre-defined SLA’s on a 24 hour call out basis in accordance to service requests to sustain and improve the quality of service on the IP, Data, Mobile telephony and Voice switching and transmission elements that constitute Company/partner networks.

During the first two years, you'll undertake a programme of application training, on-site learning, shadowing and accreditation, to build up skills in all the requisite competencies and technologies, including SafePass, First Aid, climbing, incident management, IP and Optical Networking

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be:

  • Undertaking a programme of continuous development and training to enable the candidate to undertake all the tasks necessary on BT networks/client sites and infrastructure. This will include attaining all requisite accreditations.

  • You'll assist in the management of major incidents and the generation of reports following established procedures.

  • You'll liaise with other field agents and interfacing with customers, driving system optimisation and continuous improvement projects to ensure maximum customer satisfaction

  • You'll install new systems, maintenance of equipment; perform upgrades and modifications to existing equipment.

  • You'll perform cable placement, including terminations.

  • You'll provide reports on operational, technical and service issues.

  • You'll take ownership of issues and follow through to resolution.

  • Use of test equipment.

We’ll also need to see these on your CV:

  • Some experience in electronics, engineering or relevant telecoms area, with a demonstrated ability to work as part of a larger geographically dispersed team.

  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a large geographically dispersed team.

  • Familiarity with basic IP networking; physical, data-link and network protocols and architectures; routers, firewalls and switches; redundant system architecture an advantage.

  • Basic understanding of mobile telephony i.e 2g, 3g, 4g, pdh, sdh & IP transmission.

  • Excellent communication skills and highly customer focused.

  • Ability to work at heights.

  • Good troubleshooting skills with the ability to think on your feet.

  • Willingness to work on call as required.

  • A current, valid, driving license is essential.

  • Relevant Engineering or Electrical Cert / Diploma / City and Guilds qualification/Degree or time served
