Why this role matters
Business Development is BT’s specialist negotiation team for major and novel external strategic initiatives. Working in Business Development means that you’ll be shaping and delivering on the key partnerships which help to bring BT Consumer’s strategy to life, from Sky to Netflix to Apple.
We work with the business to shape its ideas for how our consumer proposition can be enhanced by partnerships with leading content, device and platform players from around the world, and with partners to ensure that BT’s customers benefits from the best and newest innovations and opportunities.
We lead the development of the partnering strategy for BT branded services and products, fostering long-term relationships with key players from across the TMT space, and working with the business to ensure that BT is the partner of choice amongst UK TMT players.
We identify, negotiate and manage partnership opportunities to:
Enhance the distribution and monetisation of BT Sport via partnerships with traditional TV platforms such as Sky and Virgin, social media platforms such as YouTube, and streaming devices such as Chromecast;
Expand BT’s content offer by partnering with must-have SVOD services such as Netflix and Now TV; and
Support the growth of BT’s broadband base by working with partners to ensure that the product is relevant and sticky for a wide range of customers.
The team works with a wide range of colleagues from across BT, from Propositions, Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Strategy and Legal. The work is fast-paced and various.
What you'll be doing
You’ll be taking the lead responsibility for managing the commercial aspects of two of BT’s largest partnerships in TV and Sport
Acting as the first point of contract for the external partners on day-to-day issues;
Acting as the internal expert on these partnerships for the wider BT Consumer business;
Identifying, escalating and resolving commercial issues within the business in advance of any potential impact on the third-party relationships; and
Identifying opportunities to expand and enhance these two partnerships.
You will also work across a wide-range of other Business Development priorities from across Consumer:
Identifying and analysing opportunities that deliver on our strategy and create long term shareholder value;
Leading the exploration of new opportunities with other partners;
Developing and maintaining a network of relationships – both internal and external, national and international in order to maximise the progress of opportunities/projects; and
Leading the negotiation of commercial opportunities from proposal to signature of contracts.

Experience of managing key high value relationships
Proven business and commercial acumen and awareness
Strong interpersonal skills and leadership in managing stakeholders
Good understanding of the key trends and commercial drivers of the TMT industry or ability to demonstrate transferable skills from a similar highly competitive consumer facing industry
Excellent, proven, analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative, and some experience in the development and presentation of business cases
Strong negotiation skills and some relevant prior experience in deal-making
Able to quickly build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organisation
Excellent written and oral communication skills, both verbally and in written form
Business Development, strategic consultancy or financial background ideal
