Why this role matters

To provide support and insight to Consumer leadership team by owning consumer finance controls environment including Sarbanes-Oxley and three lines of defence framework. In light of the control deficiencies that BT group discovered in 16/17, specifically in the Italian operation, there is an enhanced focus on controls and assurance across all CFUs and this role is critical to ensuring the BT Consumer leads the way in compliance.

Included under the umbrella of the control framework is the ownership of Consumer Stock Obsolescence and Purchase Price Variance provisions. The role holder is responsible for the preparation of the monthly adjustments in accordance to group accounting policy as well as communicating to the impacted units and the Senior Finance Manager – Cash and Balance Sheet.

The role holder will also act as the lead business partner to our RPA colleagues in India, providing challenge and guidance to the team while ensuring that we are utilising the resource efficiently enabling the UK team to focus on value add activities.

Central Unit TLC / TLR ownership is a key responsibility of this role. There are 320 roles in central and support functions, equating to a TLC of c. £40m pa. This role owns the reporting and forecasting of these heads, working closely with HR and senior management to ensure that the budgets are set and managed appropriately.

This role is also responsible for supporting the Senior Finance Manager – Cash and Balance Sheet on balance sheet focussed projects that will likely include interacting with commercial units, billing teams and shared service centres including RPA and FSSC.

The role holder will also be a key point of contact for the external auditors, helping to coordinate the flow of information from the units to the auditors in a timely and accurate manner.

What you'll be doing

• Controls:

Own the Consumer Finance SOX process, ensuring all processes are compliant and appropriate evidence is gathered and recorded for Audit purposes

Manage compliance of finance processes with Three Lines of Defence framework, both in terms of roll initial roll out and ongoing testing to ensure sufficient assurance activity is taking place in the CFU

Own the PPV and Stock obsolescence processes at month end and forecast, ensuring compliance with group accounting policies and is communicated to all stakeholders as required

One of the key point of contact for external auditors, managing flow of information to deliver optimal outcome of audits with minimal disruption to the team

• Business Partnering:

Lead business partner to RPA team in India

Provide challenge and coaching to key contacts within the Central Finance team to ensure that all deadlines are met and deliverables are of sufficient standard

Continually review and evolve responsibilities of RPA team to manage balance of workload across UK and India to enable UK team to focus in value add activities and delivery of insight over information

Support unit finance teams on any RPA related issues / queries they have through leverage of relationship with RPA management

• TLC / TLR management:

Ownership of forecasting and reporting of all central and support function TLR (320 ) and TLC (c. £40m pa)

Ensure budget is set appropriately by working closely with HR and budget owners. Changes are agreed at the right level and insight is provided on any movements vs. existing Budget/MTP

Reporting is delivered accurately and to agreed timetables, delivering appropriate insight into any variances and feeding as required into the R&O process

• Ad Hoc:

Support HoF and SFM for Balance sheet on ad hoc projects, mainly across the balance sheet, leveraging relationships with key unit finance teams, group finance, FSSC, billing and RPA

Provide support to other members of the team including knowledge sharing and buddying to ensure all roles are covered in the case of absence

Part qualified (or qualified) accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)

Good working knowledge of Hyperion system

Good excel skills

Experience of stakeholder management

Good organisational skills, attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills
