This role matters because you will undertake key audit assignments in a professional manner in line with Divisional standards, thus enabling IAD to provide independent and objective assurance to senior management and the Board, via the Board Audit & Risk Committee, as to the adequacy and effectiveness of key controls and of risk management activities across the organisation. In doing this, the role holder delivers high quality, reliable and efficient service to clients and colleagues, based on training and experience, using the tools provided to do the job, and with the support of their SAM.

Doing an audit requires data analysis, interviewing, process mapping, using wider intelligence and own skill/judgement to identify the key risks and controls within the area being audited and how to test to ensure they operate as they are designed to do. The role holder needs to draw conclusions resulting from their work, agree those with client, write reports making recommendations for resolution. They also have to track management’s responses to draft reports, prepare the final report and subsequently track resolution of findings, including testing to confirm closure.

What you'll be doing

• Planning, performing and reporting of audits, on a risk assessed basis using appropriate, flexible, and cost effective methodologies that are in line with Professional/ Divisional standards and customer needs, acting either as lead auditor or in support of others;

• Where leading an audit, will oversee the work of others on the assignment, providing technical advice and coaching where appropriate on a timely basis and to the required quality in accordance with IAD eQMS.

• Tracking audit recommendations to ensure implementation is achieved against targets and that the remediation is effective;

• Undertaking Sox404 compliance testing assignments in accordance with Divisional Sox timescales and documentation standards;

• Supporting SAM and HO in ongoing client account management;

• Keeping up-to-date with external developments and business insight of specified business operations, strategic imperatives and business risks;

• Understanding and deploying the risk based approach to maintaining the audit universe and actively contributing to the annual plan build exercise

• Providing business insight and audit expertise to the team and clients on specified business processes, strategic imperatives and enterprise threatening risks.

Resources

• Accountable for efficient use of their own time, equipment & systems, ensuring that tasks are delivered on time to the expected quality.

• Making full use of computer assisted audit techniques (CAATs) to deliver efficiencies and enhanced audit results.

• Accountable for delivering the audit in the most cost effective manner by organising team resources and client engagements to minimise necessary T&S spend.

Problem Solving

• Required to solve problems using guidance, precedents, templates, briefing materials or instructions to help resolve problems

• Expected to challenge upwards given their knowledge and expertise and help agree solutions across organisational boundaries;

• Ensuring audit recommendations are pragmatic and address the root causes of the underlying problems identified;

• Identifying emerging themes and addressing the broader picture.

Change

• Identify, anticipate and recommend the need for changes to the audit plan in response to changing risk profiles and business needs;

• Helps manage change to audit schedules to ensure team goals are achieved;

• Contributes to the initiatives underpinning the IA Divisional goals and objectives;

• Proactively assists in the identification and development of leading edge methodologies and best practice.

Client and stakeholder management

• Helps create a team culture of customer and commercial focus;

• Developing deep understanding of their clients needs, risks and strategic imperatives;

• Leads and participates in discussions at planning meetings and exit meetings with senior client management;

• Keeps the SAM and clients informed of key concerns throughout the progress of audit assignments;

• Ensuring clients are supported in discharging their audit recommendation obligations through regular liaison and providing clarity on expectations;

• Support the SAM with account management of clients and external stakeholders as required;

• Contributes reports and presentations to senior management forums as required.

• Must be a qualified accountant and have 3 years’ experience working in Internal Audit or External Audit – Internal is preferable.

• Must be able to work autonomously, researching and gaining an understanding of areas with no previous experience

• Must be able to provide and propose solutions to problems

• Must understand risk and be able to quantify likelihood and impact and readily articulate this to senior managers / stakeholders in the business

• Must be able to deal with challenge from management and hold their ground
