The BT Consumer Digital team is a passionate team of creative thinkers tasked with shaping the future of BT Consumer’s web and mobile experiences. You will need to be based at our BT Centre, London office. As part of this team, you work with many kinds of creative thinkers all tasked with ensuring creative excellence across BT Consumer’s product portfolio. Your goal is to deliver one integrated BT Consumer experience. What you'll be doing

As a Senior UX Designer in BT Consumer’s Digital studio team, you will report into the UX Lead and work with creative leadership and key partners to deliver our products and services through our multi-device experiences. You will contribute to the development of key interactive experiences and flows that are consistent across BT Consumer’s products. You will need to be an experienced and well-rounded UX professional connecting the dots between business needs, innovation and good design. You will collaborate daily with a diverse set of specialists from information architects, visual designers, project managers, writers, developers and a variety of stakeholders to deliver these digital experiences.

You will lead and mentor more junior team members to help them grow and develop their abilities within this discipline

What you’ll be doing

  • Owning user experience – Take ownership of one or more parts of the user experience: mapping user journeys and designing interactions and interfaces.

  • Creating UX designs – Create clear documentation (including UX design rules, paper and click-through prototypes) that fosters a delightful user experience.

  • Researching UX – Lead in and design user experience research and usability studies working alongside our UX Research team.

  • Building knowledge across the team – Lead regular UX workshops, reviews and other team-wide design efforts as well as help drive the understanding and importance of UX across the organisation.

  • Working across multiple projects– Execute against multiple work streams in a fast-paced, challenging environment and deliver strategically sound, conceptually-based, iconic experiences.

  • Documenting and sharing progress – Encourage and deliver the creation and sharing of documentation of UX progress, updates and findings within the team and across the organisation through clear and confident presentations.

  • Making strategic decisions across a number of core projects – Confident supporting and challenging requirements, briefs and assumptions.

What you have done already / What you’ll be good at

  • Demonstrated experience in the field – 5 years of hands on experience with a range of UI/UX and interactive work and the accompanying portfolio of mobile digital experiences.

  • Demonstrated experience in senior stakeholder management – Comfortable managing expectations, challenging and presenting to senior stakeholders.

  • Knowing the tools – Expert proficiency with Axure, Omnigraffle, Balsamic, Sketch or other relevant tools.

  • Conveying concepts – Excellent Interaction design work: ability to convey concepts through wireframes, flows and mock-ups.

  • A very good understanding and appreciation of visual design– Comfort with working closely with the visual designers to develop a creative and rich visual language; on-screen graphic design, illustration and data visualization to complement and enhance the overall experience.

  • Quick prototyping– Fluent and confident in creating quick and dirty prototypes for web and/or mobile app experiences leading to high fidelity prototypes when necessary

  • Technical understanding – Familiarity with development software and development processes.

  • Taking people with you – Proven ability to act as a leader in communicating UX design rationale, all within a user-centered design process through engaging storytelling to ultimately sell the vision.

  • Managing your time and managing others – Must be self-motivated to prioritise and manage workload and meet critical project milestones and deadlines as well as manage others. Ideally this may include line management and development of non-senior team members.

  • Solving problems– Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Working in teams– Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships across the business.

  • Passionate about the field you work in – Strong interest in the latest design, UX and technology trends, with a drive to be a trend setter within your field of expertise.

  • Very good commercial awareness – Appreciation and understanding of the commercial landscape and ecommerce trends and always aware of the balance between user and business requirements.
