Why this role matters

Your job is to create and deliver a compelling social media strategy across BT UK’s primary consumer accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube, as well as manage a new in-house video production department for BT’s digital team. You will lead a team in delivering fantastic social and video experiences for customers, and influence budget owners and service teams to ensure social is at the heart of BT’s digital journey.

What you'll be doing

  • Delivering a compelling social media content strategy. You’ll work with a number of internal and agency stakeholders to create, co-ordinate and deliver a coherent social media strategy across Facebook (, Twitter (, Instagram ( and YouTube (

  • Influencing marketing plans and media spend. You’ll be the go-to social expert for marketing teams who are planning social content campaigns (both paid and organic), consulting with them on the most effective channels and methods of achieving their objectives

  • Overseeing all organic and paid social output. You’ll live and breathe the pan-BT content ‘playbook’, ensuring everything that goes out on our consumer social accounts is on-brand, consistent and customer-centric

  • Building a new in-house video capability. You’ll directly manage a digital video producer, whose job it is to create business-aligned videos for and our social channels

  • Creating a high-performing team. You’ll have three direct reports – two social media community managers and the digital video producer – who you will coach for success and help develop their careers

  • Building strong relationships. You’ll develop excellent relationships up to MD level in order to educate and influence stakeholders on the value of social and video content. This includes customer service teams, the editorial team, the BT Brand and Marketing teams, and external agencies

  • Demonstrating your team’s success. You’ll deliver the necessary reporting and analysis that demonstrates how your strategy is driving positive business results

You’ll be a social media expert, having managed high-profile consumer-facing account(s) for at least one major brand or publisher

You’ll have significant experience using social data and analysis to improve content output and results

You’ll have a good understanding of digital video best practice, particularly on social media (inc. YouTube)

You’ll have the outgoing personality and proactivity to build positive working relationships, able to educate and influence stakeholders on the benefits of social content and influence budget owners to invest in paid social campaigns

You’ll have excellent customer-centric editorial skills, lots of creative ideas and be passionate about creating brilliant content for a major British brand

You’ll be a confident and positive people manager, coaching and leading your team to fulfil its potential

In the first 12 months you'll:

  • Create and deliver a compelling social strategy across BT UK’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts

  • Working with other teams in BT, develop a series of organic and paid content campaigns that engage customers and deliver against KPIs

  • Build key relationships with, and influence internal stakeholders to bring positive change to BT’s digital output (e.g. access to marketing assets and budgets, making a case to bring agency video production in-house)

  • Help create a new briefing process for digital video production, ensuring your video producer is able to prioritise his time effectively

  • Bring new insight and industry knowledge to BT, identifying any new social and video opportunities that we should be capitalising on
