Key purpose of the role:
The Strategic Initiatives Project Lead will be responsible for multiple groups that manage a portfolio of projects which deliver the Strategy & Transformation objectives of the overall BT Group Strategy.
This role involves setting the strategic direction of BT Group and will make recommendations to the Board on businesses entered, businesses exited, and major growth initiatives.
The Strategic Initiatives Project Lead is accountable for:
To provide incisive leadership on Strategy creation by understanding the international drivers of the strategy, global business dynamics and the translation of this into creative and challenging strategies in resolution of difficult and important strategic issues.
This role will be responsible for making recommendations to the BT Board on businesses & market place that BT should be operating in.
To demonstrate the breadth of outlook necessary to comprehend consequences of actions across organisational and industry boundaries, both here and abroad.
Develop strategy to transform all aspects of the business & operating model.
Understanding the American telecommunication space with a vision towards the future.
Delivering the Strategy & Transformation roadmap and commitments.
Building & leading a Project Management team to manage specific programme delivery.
Creates & maintains a wide network within and across the business, carrying out senior presentations to internal and external audiences.
What you’ll be doing:
Develop and refine BT’s corporate strategy
Creating executive level presentations with a clear strategic vision.
Responsible for project transformation from initial concept & executive approval to delivering of the final project & successful handoff to downstream teams.
Deliver projects (including all key milestones) on time, with agreement from relevant stakeholders and to agreed quality criteria from conception through to market launch and transition into operations.
Create network / program analytics to provide cost / benefit analyses of our content partners
Ensure projects are aligned to our Strategy & Transformation roadmap and deliver a valid core business benefit.
Lead communication with upstream & downstream stakeholders to drive strong, open and sustained communication channels both within the project team and with the wider stakeholder community.
Work with stakeholders to shape project and proactively solve conflict situations through problem-solving, negotiation, open communication and direct influencing.
Continually focus on and manage the project to realise the business benefits.
Ensure appropriate and effective governance of the project in line with BT Group’s Governance process, supported by comprehensive reporting.
Proactively identify and manage risks which will affect the programme achieving the business benefit.
Liaise with wider portfolio management community to secure alignment on interdependencies across projects.
Provide effective leadership to the project team, and take appropriate action.
Ensure realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained.
The skills & experience you’ll need:
Extensive understanding & experience of strategy planning and delivery in the telecommunication industry and the players within it.
Deep understanding of the American cable & telecommunications market and how global technology companies are encroaching on our space.
Understanding of best-in-class international video retention strategies
Will have held similar roles in a strategic consultancy or equivalent.
High level of commercial expertise and acumen is essential, demonstrated by experience in the global telecommunication & digital market place.
Strong understating of network and program-level valuation of content.
Demonstrates an extremely high level of analytical capability, including development of network ROI analytics of American media companies.
Extremely high level of business acumen and excellent commercial experience/judgement.
Extensive experience of driving & delivering high value/business sensitive & share price influencing projects.
Strong team building & leadership skills coupled with team & people management skills.
Experience of working with senior stakeholders, solving conflict, negotiation, open communication & direct influencing.
Able to lead & own communication with senior stakeholders across the business (up to Executive level) both within the project team and with the wider stakeholder community.
MBA or equivalent qualification
